Finding the Pleasant

I decided to give blogging a go after I realised that it helped me relax. I suppose that that is something that we are all after. I was about to finish that last sentence with the word 'nowadays,' but quickly stopped myself. I think, in my opinion that is, that we hear this word far too much. I know that life has become more of a burden that we have to wear on our backs now due to the economy and the government etc etc... But it is sad that we have allowed ourselves to be sucked in to this. What I mean is that it has affected our lives so much that we cant start a conversation with friends or a passing greeting from an aquaintance without answering with something along the lines of: *Spoken with low tone of voice and frown on face* "Ah you  know yourself, struggling..." We cannot swap pleasantries without sticking in a comment about how hard things are. We've allowed it to take over, to suck out all the 'pleasant.'
I don't want to say that people are moaning too much because it is difficult. But whatever happened to making the most of. My family are finding things very rough just like many other families and most of the time we find ourselves scared wondering whats going to happen next and will we make it. But there have been times like these before and we have made it. It is not impossible. No matter how hard and frightening life is.
Its time to find the 'pleasant' again. Go for walks along the seafront or the park. Sit in the library with a great book. Go to any local markets and window shop. Anything. Find that little pleasant something that gives you a bit of happy during these very trying times...

  1. hi! i stumbled upon your blog when blogger listed you among some who shared A Good Year as a favorite book (SO much better than the movie--as usual), and i'm glad i did. it caught my eye because of "Kittyhawk" and that you're in dublin. kitty hawk (north carolina) and dublin are two of my favorite cities. i couldn't help but click on your blog, which also made me grin because i think the dot dot dot is my most-used punctuation mark. it's quite effective!

anyway, wanted to say i enjoyed reading and agree with your post and hope you continue on with more! i'm just getting started myself. we'll see how it goes... yikes!
